Our History:

A Foundation of Trust

 Our foundation rests on nearly 80 years of experience in the benefits industry, with roots tracing back to the New Jersey Fuel Merchants Association Insurance Trust, founded in 1945. This long-term stability is a testament to our sound financial management and commitment to our members. Today, as Association Member Trust, we are a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) that combines member employers from seventeen independent trade associations. This structure is a key to our strength, maximizing claim stability, administrative efficiency, and cost savings for our members. AMT operates in accordance with New Jersey's MEWA law and is registered with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.

AMT's governance model is a fundamental part of our member-first philosophy. Our Board of Trustees is composed of representatives from each of the independent member associations. They are a working board, meeting quarterly to oversee operations, ensure regulatory compliance with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. Their decisions are binding and final on all parties within the legal framework.

Our representatives have direct computer access to our partners' systems, allowing for quick, efficient claims resolution. We believe in full transparency regarding our financial health. As a MEWA, we are required to file annual reports with the U.S. Department of Labor, and our audited financial statements and actuarial opinions are publicly available on our website. This commitment to transparency is a key reason for our financial stability and success.

We maintain significant financial reserves to cover "incurred but not reported" claims and meet New Jersey's stringent Risk-Based Capital requirements. Additionally, we have specific and aggregate stop-loss protection with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to safeguard the trust from catastrophic claims. This ensures our long-term stability and protects your business from unexpected financial risks.
