About Association Member Trust:
The Business Owner's Advantage in Healthcare
As a business owner, you know that a strong benefits package is crucial for attracting and keeping great employees. But the cost and complexity can feel overwhelming. At Association Member Trust (AMT), we understand these challenges, and we've built a better way. We are a not-for-profit, multi-association benefits trust designed to provide small- and medium-sized businesses—like yours—with the kind of health benefits typically reserved for large corporations.
Our Mission:
A Shared Commitment
At AMT, our mission is more than a statement; it's a commitment to empower you, the business owner, by providing your employees with high-quality, affordable health benefits. Our unique not-for-profit model puts you in control, allowing you to leverage the collective power of your association to gain access to superior plans, personalized service, and a level of financial transparency that is unmatched. We don't serve shareholders; we serve you. Our success is measured by the health of your employees and the financial stability of your business.
Our History:
A Foundation of Trust
Our foundation rests on nearly 80 years of experience in the benefits industry, with roots tracing back to the New Jersey Fuel Merchants Association Insurance Trust, founded in 1945. This long-term stability is a testament to our sound financial management and commitment to our members. Today, as Association Member Trust, we are a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) that combines member employers from seventeen independent trade associations. This structure is a key to our strength, maximizing claim stability, administrative efficiency, and cost savings for our members. AMT operates in accordance with New Jersey's MEWA law and is registered with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
Our Plans:
A Comprehensive Partnership
Our self-funded health and dental plans are not just products; they are the result of strategic partnerships with industry leaders to give you and your employees the best possible care.
Medical Plans: We partner with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey for medical claims administration and network access. This ensures your employees have access to the largest and most trusted network of doctors and hospitals in New Jersey, as well as nationally through the BlueCard Program.
Dental Plans: For dental benefits, we've teamed up with Delta Dental of New Jersey. This partnership gives your employees access to one of the largest dental networks in the country.
Pharmacy: Our pharmacy benefits are managed by Prime Therapeutics, a pharmacy benefit manager that provides access to a wide range of medications.
Ancillary Benefits: We provide competitive Life and AD&D coverage underwritten by UniCare Life & Health Insurance Company, along with voluntary vision plans through Davis Vision - allowing you to build a complete benefits package.
Our Leadership:
Governance and Expertise
AMT's governance model is a fundamental part of our member-first philosophy. Our Board of Trustees is composed of representatives from each of the independent member associations. This means that the people making decisions about your benefits are your peers—business owners who understand the real-world challenges you face. They are a working board, meeting quarterly to oversee operations, ensure regulatory compliance with the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance. Their decisions are binding and final on all parties within the legal framework.
Our Staff:
Personal and Professional Support
Our staff is our most important asset. We believe in providing a level of personal support that large insurers can't match. With a team of over a dozen employees, we go beyond a typical call center. Our representatives have direct computer access to our partners' systems, allowing for quick, efficient claims resolution. More than just customer service, our staff act as your member advocates, guiding you and your employees through everything from understanding a bill to finding the right provider.
Our Commitment:
Financial Strength and Member Value
We believe in full transparency regarding our financial health. As a MEWA, we are required to file annual reports with the U.S. Department of Labor, and our audited financial statements and actuarial opinions are publicly available on our website. This commitment to transparency is a key reason for our financial stability and success.
We maintain significant financial reserves to cover "incurred but not reported" claims and meet New Jersey's stringent Risk-Based Capital requirements. Additionally, we have specific and aggregate stop-loss protection with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to safeguard the trust from catastrophic claims. This ensures our long-term stability and protects your business from unexpected financial risks.
