Ways to be a Healthier You in 2018
January has come and gone, which means so has many New Year’s Resolutions have been forgotten about. If your resolution to become healthier has been ditched to the curb, you should pick it back up again. There’s never a bad time to start changing your life for the better.
If you’re struggling with a weight problem, you are not alone. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (DCP), 36.5% of adult Americans are obese. That’s about one-third of Americans!
The first thing you should do, if you are considering losing weight, is to make an appointment with your doctor. Together, you can review your health habits, go over your family history, and your behaviors as to why you are gaining weight and or having a difficult time losing weight. They will help you set realistic goals and provide you on the right path of completing them.
Changing your eating habits and exercising more will not only help you lose weight, but it will lower your risk of cancer, heart disease, heart attack, stroke, and diabetes. It will also improve your mental health and put less weight on your bones. Your mobility will improve, giving you the freedom to do more activities.
There are simple ways to exercise throughout the day. Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs. Take your dog for a walk around the block instead of letting him roam around the backyard. Cleaning your house also burns extra calories. If going to the gym isn’t for you, there are plenty of work out videos on YouTube that you can do in the privacy of your own home. These baby steps might not seem like much, but they will bring you closer to reaching your weight loss goal.
